Dr Mike Woodin, a Green Party councillor for Oxford and Don at Balliol College has died aged 38. Dr Woodin passed away in July after a five month battle with cancer.

Balliol Senior Tutor Dr Helen Steward, who worked closely with Dr Woodin, a psychology lecturer and tutor, told The Oxford Student: "He was an incredibly dedicated and caring tutor whose students really loved him."

The Green Party have lined up to pay tribute to the man who became the first Oxford Green councillor in 1994. A spokesperson said Dr Woodin was a "tremendously valued member" who "focused the Green party on elections rather than just campaigning" and gave them a new optimism that getting elected wasn't an "insurmountable task".

Councillors who worked with Dr Woodin have also added their tributes. "It has been an honour and privilege to have known and worked with Mike," said Alex Hollingsworth, Labour councillor and leader of the city council, whilst the Liberal Democrat leader of the council, John Goddard, added: "he will be sadly missed".
