Ball attacker sentenced
A former Yale student who attacked an MBA Oxford student at Corpus Christi Ball in May has been given a suspended one-year sentence and ordered to pay £10,000 in compensation.
Twenty-four-year-old Ilya Zarembsky of Boston, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to 33-year-old Stuart Bremner following a "deep philosophical debate" on 1st May this year.
Madonna, MA (Oxon)?
Madonna will be swapping minims and semiquavers for Milton and Shakespeare, as she begins studying English Literature as an Oxford student through its distance learning scheme, according to The Sun. However, no such scheme exists and the University has denied it.
Lecture snoozers
One in four UK university students admitted to sleeping in lectures, according to a recent survey. Results also showed that 58 per cent either didn't bother to attend or turned up late, while ten per cent claimed to have been drunk during lectures.
Black boys can
Oxford University has teamed up with the charity National Black Boys Can Association, to introduce a new access scheme specifically targetted at young black males. A two day residential course will see those who show aptitude for higher education getting a taste of studying amongst the dreaming spires.
