Match me if you can

Match me if you can

Like sex, Fight Club and Alton Towers some things are better the second time around. After a botched attempt to match Joo on Saturday night - the guy failing to show after many crossed wires and a missing phone (actually a good thing as it turns out he had already pulled her best friend) - we ran dangerously close to our publication deadline and tried again.

After giving a description of Matt to Joo as we froze to death outside Oxford Ice Rink on Friday night, she became more and more excited about her 'new' guy, so much so that we had to restrain her from runnning away in case her first date should show up.

Luckily for Joo she got her date with Matt and they met at Escape, the newest nightclub in town. After an initial burst of excitement surrounding the matching bright pink arm cast and scarf (belonging to Matt and Joo respectively) there was a bit of an awkward silence as we left them to their meal, we think that Matt was just speechless at the sight of Joo, as his intial impression was a definitive 'wow'.

However, evidently the wine loosened their tongues and before long they were chatting away like old friends. Matt won some brownie points on the production of free drinks vouchers to Shout and so they ventured down to Park End Street to take advantage of the bar and the empty dance floor which they happily filled all by themselves to the delight of the three other people in the bar watching. The dancing soon turned dirty and after a bit more to drink the dancing became kissing. Result.

However, a slightly embarrassing moment ensued as Matt lost his phone and was forced to scramble around on the floor looking for it. After declaring themselves too drunk and the phone truly lost, the walk home was a little more subdued. Ever the gentleman Matt walked Joo home, in fact he escorted her right to her staircase where they parted with a kiss, deciding it should go no further. at least that's what they told us!

Here's what they thought.

Joo on Matt: Matt is a sweet, friendly guy with an amazing voice and lots of good banter. My first impression of his looks were that he was tall, dark and had a nice stylish blazer! It was definitely a fun filled night. The drinks were flowing and the company was great. Matt was really funny, when I wrote 'you were amazing' on his plaster cast to give all the Catz freshers something to talk about, he replied with 'you can tell the future then', cheeky boy!

Matt on Joo: If you'd asked me before this date I guess I wouldn't have said Joo would be the type of girl I'd usually go for, but she looked great. The date took a couple of minutes to get going but once I forgot the bizarreness of the whole situation and dived in, it flowed like the wine. Joo was really good-looking with an even better personality, and is someone who appreciates the beauty of a bright pink cast. Awesome. To sum up the date, there was good food, good wine, great company. It all sounds awfully close to my description of an ideal date!

Tall, dark and handsome; you don't get many of those in Milton Keynes. Reassured by his friends that it's 'not like he has any psychotic traits or anything' they also complement him on being an all-round nice person (but they have only known him six weeks). Matt's passion is music, and he's certainly a talented guy. If you recognise the face it's as a member of a cappella group, Out Of The Blue, in which Matt sings baritone.

He plays guitar as well, and when not making it himself he has wide ranging listening tastes from ska to classical. He is currently sporting a gorgeous pink cast that's sure to catch Joo's eye. He picked it up four days into term after a particularly violent volley from his JCR Welfare officer put him out of action as St Catz's star goalie.

On women, Matt looks for interesting, intelligent girls with lovely smiles and easy humour. He'd love to date the fascinatingly kooky Amélie. Matt likes the simple things in life; good food and good company, so Match Me should be just up his street. Let's just hope Matt's most hated food, coleslaw isn't on the menu.

Telling us about herself Joo quips "I may look like an innocent oriental girl but don't judge a book by it's cover!" A loud and lively Londoner she's the life and soul of the party with her stylish dance moves and killer karaoke skills. Joo loves singing so much she once went busking with one of Oxford's colourful Cormarket tramps.

Daytime favourites are shopping and eating. Favourite foods are ketchup because, like her, it goes with anything, Thai and homemade chocolate biscuits. She loves pink: shoes, scarves, flamingoes, cocktails. While working in London club Oceana she once served kids TV superstar, Otis, mistaking him for the aardvark.

Starting early Joo was already causing trouble at 12 for hollering at sixth form boys visiting her all girls school. Joo's ambitions involve a job with lots of power dressing.

On the dating front, Joo could definitely do with some help; her ideal date is her tutor! Struggling to meet guys from outside college she came to the Match Me fairies looking for a humorous and adventurous dark-haired guy.
