Thora debate for Hilda's stairlift Hird
The stresses and strains of finals may have taken its toll on the ladies of St Hilda's, who are considering installing a stairlift to end the arduous climb after a hard day's revision.
College affairs officer Gemma Dickson is currently investigating the feasibility and cost of a stairlift, following a motion proposed by allegedly "drunken finalists" Stacey Smith and Jessica Monaghan, who believed themselves too old and tired to climb the stairs.
JCR President Suzanne McClelland told The Oxford Student: "They're quite lazy, and perhaps shouldn't get quite so drunk. As finalists they should do some work."
As the proposers refused to reveal anything further than their names, The Oxford Student was moved to consider the effect of glamorous stairlift marketing involving such figures as Dame Thora Hird and June Whitfield.
An expert from Caremor Stairlifts told The Oxford Student: "Stairlifts are usually the last option for people with disabilities, so I wouldn't say it was glamorous at all. Such celebrities are used because elder people can relate to them."
