LMH Bop

Revellers at this year's LMH halloween bop.

The perils of college parties revealed themselves to be greater than one might think on Saturday night, when a reveller dressed as a mummy caught fire at LMH’s ‘Halloween bop’. Hamish Stewart, a student at Teddy Hall, turned up for the bop wrapped in toilet roll but his costume caught fire outside the college bar. “I was just chatting with some guys when I suddenly felt hot and could smell burning,” he told The Oxford Student.

“Before I knew it loads of people had dived on top of me and the fire was out,” he added. Stewart suffered no serious injuries but did leave the bop with his friends shortly afterwards. He does not know whether the fire was accidental or deliberate, but college authorities are taking the incident seriously. According to one LMH student who witnessed the fire, the college porters are threatening to ban bops as a response to the events on Saturday.

The LMH dean said the incident was being investigated and members of the JCR Committee declined to comment.
