Midterm madness
Oxford students know the depression that fifth week can bring. Essays have started to pile up, the initial euphoria of getting back to your friendship group has worn off, and the end of term still looks so far away. Students at Corpus and Merton have created some interesting ways of cheering themselves up over the last few weeks.
The Corpus group, the ‘Guild of Thieves’, has begun a campaign of orchestrated thievery designed to find out which student would be awarded the title ‘Master of Thievery’. Not satisfied with winding up other colleges by stealing from them, Corpus students then besieged Mansfield, demanding an annual donation from their rvals of a bottle of port.
Finally, Merton students have thrown their hat into the ring for the title of ‘nuttiest college’, by declaring themselves an independent republic. Led by Corpus students, long may this trend of disrespect for the austere stereotype of Oxford students continue. This lack of deference and inventive sense of fun is the ideal way to brighten up the long, cold nights of winter.
