What's the point?

By The Oxford Student

Both The Oxford Student and Cherwell have been the object of colleges’ wrath over the last couple of weeks over tongue-in-cheek comments made in the newspapers’ pages. After its ‘What’s the Point?’ column called the residents of the three Turl Street colleges ‘dull’ and ‘inbred’, The Oxford Student was threatened with a fight to the death between the combined forces of these three colleges and the newspaper’s staff box.

This week, however, in the same edition that reported the story under the headline ‘OxStu slammed as Turl Street colleges hit back’, Cherwell ran the column passé notes on the death of the hildabeast. They said of girls at St Hilda’s, "Hildabeasts actually do no worse [academically] than girls elsewhere in Oxford. They just haven’t got any boys to get firsts for them."

The clear answer to this problem is bravely to accept the challenge of the Turl Street colleges and embark on a fight to the death in Radcliffe Square, while inviting the staff box of Cherwell and members of St Hilda’s college to join in.
