Wadham winners
WADHAM'S SUCCESSFUL ODD Ball Advertising Campaign this week won the Boomerang Media University Own Card Competition. It landed three lucky ball committee members -Ben Woodcock, Steve Riley and Brendan O'Grady - with free flights to Amsterdam.
The Odd Ball, to take place on July 1st, was the subject of discussion on Radio 1 this week, amidst excitement over the 'secret gig in Oxford' of Supergrass.
Freddie floored
INFAMOUS ROYAL FREDDIE Windsor has publicly apologised for his drunken behaviour. Pictures of disgraced Freddie - a student at Magdalen College - were splashed across The Sun, showing him sprawled on the floor after a night of hard drinking in London. The 21-year-old has hit back at the 'twit' label by sending a letter to The Sun in which he apologises for his behaviour. He claimed that he is proud to be at Oxford and is wholeheartedly joining in all of its traditions.
Drunken debt
STUDENT HAUNT roots.net in Park End Street closed last week owing £500,000. Staff were told that they were losing their jobs with immediate effect and that the parent company Roots Leisure Ltd had no cash left to pay any wages they were due. The problems were caused partly by the stringent requirements associated with Health and Safety and licensing.
Baaaly alive
TOP OXFORD STUDENT writer Katy Hodgins is recovering this week after her dramatic brush with death in Teesdale, County Durham last weekend. Katy - a second year linguist of St Peter's College - was visiting a friend when she slipped and fell 40 ft whilst trying to heroically rescue a trapped lamb.
Doting boyfriend Edward Simpson and his housemate Chris Loughran scrambled down the gorge to rescue her, whilst Adam Fleming went to a local farm to raise the alarm. Katy described the situation: "I think that it was the sharp rocks at the bottom which broke my rib, but I should be grateful - it could have been a lot worse.
Correction
Following an article last week, the Oxford Student would like to clarify that it would not be possible for contact details lodged on reachoxbridge.co.uk to be used in bulk by, as we put it, a 'student-hankering multinational company'.
We have discussed the very robust security of the site with its managers and now recognise that arrangements have been made which ensure that information held on the site can not be abused.
