...and you know you are
In the last JCR meeting of the Hilary term Lincoln JCR voted by 60 votes to 0 to desubscribe from the Cherwell to show the college's disapproval of the standard of last term's paper.
In addition the JCR president, Shabana Mahmood, was mandated to write to the editor of the Cherwell expressing the student body's dissatisfaction with the paper. Some faults listed by the motion's author, ex-JCR Secretary Jerome Glass, included complaints that the paper wasn't funny and that some of the columns were irrelevant.
The paper was also accused of treating Lincoln student Charlie Banner unfairly in its coverage of a union disciplinary hearing last term. The successful motion added, "Everyone in Lincoln believes that the OxStu has outstripped you in every single way."
Glass has admitted that it was initially meant to be a joke motion but during the meeting but that it found so much popular support and was eventually passed unanimously. He was also found it unlikely that a motion to permanently desubscribe, to be taken at the first meeting of this term, would pass.
Cherwell deputy editor, Jon Boone, noted the intense rivalry in student journalism, commenting, "we are glad to be catching the OxStu up in the number of desubscription motions passed against us."
