Bridge to stay shut
Magdalen Bridge will stay closed to revellers for next month's May Morning celebrations, despite hopes that it would be re-opened this year. A City Council spokesman said the bridge will close at 3am until all celebrations have ceased.

INVESTMENT in arms companies by Oxford Colleges has again caused unrest, with over 40 students staging a "die-in" on Monday. Several protesters from OUSU's "Not in Our Names" campaign donned masks and lay covered in mock blood to symbolise the thousands killed by weapons manufactured by such firms. The main complaint was against the investment in BAe Systems (formerly British Aerospace), which has supplied Hawk Jets to the Indonesian government. Despite a promise that the aircraft will not be used against their own people, there are reports they have been used, including against protesting students....

The more handsome couples who made it through the preliminary college rounds were invited to vie for the prestigious title 'Mr and Miss Oxford University', all in the name of charity.

OUSU HAS LAUNCHED a new nightbus service for all members of Oxford University, after signing a new sponsorship deal with Goldman Sachs. The bus costs £1 per trip and can be called out between 11pm and 2am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. JCRs and colleges also donated generously to the £15,000 project, which will benefit their students....

Oxford is no longer classed a Foot and Mouth infected area. However Anthony Roberts, of the Countryside Service, remained cautious, commenting that "Oxford is only as free of Foot and Mouth as anywhere in England". The contagious disease could hit the county again at any time, he warned.
