Italian job for Anne

THE NOTORIOUSLY BLAND face of St Anne's College is to get an ambitious £9million facelift. The design is to follow an Italian style, and will incorporate a replica of a famous Baroque rotunda near Verona.

A new entrance, kitchen and 20 study bedrooms will be built, along with new junior common room facilities including a gym. In order to make room for the redevelopment, a small flat, built in 1910, and the current concrete gatehouse are to be demolished.

Steve Griffiths, Estates Manager at the College said: "The campus of St Anne's is a mish mash of 19th and 20th century buildings and we hope that it will have a 21st century building there as well."

Students at the college expressed their support for the new JCR facilities and study bedrooms, saying there was always "room for improvement". One member of the JCR, who wished to remain anonymous, said he wasn't sure "quite how the Baroque style would fit in on Woodstock Road," but that "it will probably look quite attractive."

It is not yet known exactly when work is to start.
