OUP Editor dies
Kim Walwyn, an "outstanding" editor who worked for Oxford University Press for 22 years, has died, aged 45, following her struggle with cancer, writes Clare Bevis.
Made Editorial Director for English Literature in 1986, she was described by friend Kate Jury as "bursting like a comet into the skies of academic English scholarship."
Walwyn was born in Portsmouth in 1956, and was educated at Newnham College, Cambridge, where she met her husband, Tim Gardam. The University recently awarded her an honorary degree in recognition of her 22 years' service.
Walwyn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. She made a full recovery, but relapsed in 2000, eventually forcing her retirement from OUP. She died on 22nd April, 2002, survived by her husband and daughter, Imogen.
