On Top Of The World

AS IF WINNING the Boat Race this year hadn't been enough for the egos of Oxford students, The Times Good University Guide 2002 has now put Oxford at the head of the university league table. Oxford outstrips Cambridge by 3 points out of a total 1,000, coming top for the first time since The Times rankings began....

News: News Hound

Being the courteous mongrel that he is, Newshound must commence by thanking the Labour Club for their free piss-up in Oriel JCR last week. A bizarre location for such a Blairite occasion, and thus it proved as half of OUCA turned up in black tie - apparently protesting against the third, yes, third cancellation of their planned toga party (at which Neil and Christine Hamilton had been tipped to join Marcus Walker in skimpy robes and slatherings of oil). Nothing to do with Jamie Gardener - sorry, Gardiner - then. Notable OUCA attendees included John Townsend and Anatole Pang, whose political fervour, it is reliably reported, left them quite literally foaming at the mouth. What a pleasant bunch these Tories are - as gorgeous News Editor Natalie Toms (Hanging Baskets of Babylon) found out when Marcus Walker plied her with wine in a frighteningly friendly manner. "Where's Neil Mahapatra when you want him?" she was later heard to exclaim. Whatever turns you on... [disclaimer: Newshound has taken Ms Toms entirely out of context. But we still thought it was funny]. Highlight of the night was meeting our idol, revolutionary Trotskyite Sacha Ismail. Despite disappointment that a true leftie had turned up to join the backslapping, Sacha is a Very Nice Boy. ...

News: News in Brief

News: Winning the league

Few can have failed to acknowledge that Oxbridge rivalry seems to have taken a rather agreeable turn in our favour of late. Numerous Varsity victories, and now, for the first time in nine years, Oxford University has unseated the Tabs to claim the coveted accolade of first place in The Times Good University Guide league tables, published this week. ...
