Dead man walking
In an embarrassing blunder the University killed off one of its alumni in the Oxford University Gazette of February 13.
The obituary listing incorrectly announced that Mr Cecil Grattan de Courcy- Wheeler, commoner of Christ Church in 1966, had died on March 18, 2001.
Still alive and kicking Mr de Courcy-Wheeler apparently alerted the relevant parties to his continuing existence. This week's University Gazette published the correction which clarified the "misunderstanding" and Christ Church has duly apologised for its "regrettable error."
