As reported in The OxStu, Marcus Walker, President-Elect of the Oxford Union, was ejected by the Purple Turtle for being drunk and disorderly. However it appears he is also deserving of condemnation for a highly offensive costume he wore to Oriel's "War and Peace" bop earlier in the evening. Walker turned up dressed as "Little Ali", the orphaned Iraqi child, having sewn the ends of his sleeves together to represent the poor child's arms, which are amputated above the elbow.
A university student in Romania claims to be learning Italian from his pet thrush. Marin Burghelea, from Bacau in northern Romania, said he had been given the thrush called Luca by a friend in Italy, and is now returning the favour by teaching it Italian. "Instead of opening a dictionary I just ask Luca to translate for me or tell me different things in Italian." he told the Realitatea Romaneasca newspaper. Luca has now learnt over 500 Romanian words.
A Hotel and Tourism Management student from Bangkok has been crowned Thailand's 9th Jumbo Queen. The award, intended to celebrate the larger lady in a country where petite figures are the norm, is now in its 8th year. Nongnuch Paynguleaom, who weighs 14st 9lb, beat 19 other women to the title and afterward stated that she wants to be an actress "and this is a chance for me to show off my abilities". The winners were judged not only by their weight but also performances in talent contests and questions asked by the audience and judges.
