OXILP pass trial
OXILP, the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, emerged victorious in their debut appearance at the annual sevens tournament. It proved to be a tough final despite storming to an unanswered twenty-four point lead. Two of Oriel's outstanding players throughout the day had been prop forwards Ed Berry and James Schad. The college side, however, were thrown on the back foot early in the final as an OXILP counter attack saw Stu Allen running the length of the pitch to open the scoring. An already fired up OXILP team was evidently spurred on by their early success, just as Oriel appeared somewhat rattled by the manner in which the opposition had swept the length of the pitch, it wasn't too long before Alex Watt increased the lead with a second try. The one-way traffic continued, as first captain Stephan Simons, and then team mate Robin Carvell, crossed the Oriel try line. As the lawyers ran rampant, with two converted tries, the college side was in danger of oblivion as OXILP were clearly heading for the jugular....
Sport: A Tale of One City
OXFORD GAINED THEIR first win in the Inter-university BUSA tournament as they beat local rivals Brookes on a sun baked Sunday afternoon at the picturesque Queen's College ground.
Sport: Above the Law
Oxford took part in the 'most meaningless football match ever' (according to next year's skipper Arran Yentob) and came out comfortable winners. Sport: Blues go the distance
THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY Athletic Club put in a stunning performance at the BUSA Championships over the bank holiday weekend of May 3-5. In its best result for many years the OUAC men's team came 4th out of 81 competing universities, behind three of the country's high performance centres of Loughborough, UWIC and Bath. The women's team, devastated by injury and with many members having to stay in Oxford because of finals, came 22nd....
Sport: Hertford hold on as Keble fall short
Sticky pitches, horrible weather and early-season jitters could well have combined to reduce this first division match to something of an unpleasant experience, but instead the tenacity of first Keble and, in the latter stages, Hertford, ensured that this match was an absolute corker. Even Henry Blofeld would have struggled to be distracted by the No 6 buses on Banbury Road....
Sport: Vent that Spleen...
BEFORE I BEGIN THIS rant I'd like to point out that I don't find Tim Henman's personality offensive, nor am I denying that he is the most exiting thing to happen to British tennis in the last twenty five years.
Sport: An Oarsman's Diary
WITH RAIN DURING First week failing to change the flag status, rowing is now in full swing for virtually all the College First boats. Eyeing up opposition boats along the river takes up the time spent waiting for crew members to perfect their catch by Haystacks. From these observations one can tell who might rise or plummet in three week's time... ...
