Executive Club
Two new Executive Officers were elected at OUSU Council last Friday, following sudden resignations the week before. Bex Wilkinson of Teddy Hall and Ros Dampier from St Hilda's will replace Matt Richardson and Georgia Toynbee, who both felt that they could no longer commit sufficient time to their posts.
Eight candidates stood for election to the newly vacated positions. Bex Wilkinson achieved the most votes, gaining 24 first preferences. She told the OxStu that she is looking forward to playing a more active role in the Students' Union. She is already heavily involved in the Finance and Funding campaign, but is keen to do whatever is required of her in her new position.
Ros Dampier of St Hilda's gained 21 first preference votes. She says that she is eager to continue her involvement in the Women's Campaign, of which she has been co-chair for the past year.
The new executives will commence their roles immediately. Will Straw, OUSU President, feels confident in the abilities of his newly elected and "exceptionally dedicated" officers, yet an OUSU insider commented to OxStu: "Dampier is a political deviant more interested in her extremist politics than the interests of students."
A new VP (Graduates) has also been elected - Christopher Griffen of Brasenose beat Marcus Walker, President-Elect of the Oxford Union, by 52 votes to 28.
