Exeter a Bargain?

By Heba Ayoub

Exeter College is Oxford's best value for money according to a report in The Times this week. Pembroke came at the bottom of the table published with the report.

The table, based on figures compiled by student researchers, shows the widening gap between the wealthiest and poorest colleges of the university.

However the figures' accuracy is in doubt. Each college's average performance in the Norrington rankings of degree results over the past three years was compared with the annual cost of on-site rent, meals and other charges.

However Exeter's rent is due to rise by £200 per annum for the next three years. Further, the table makes no mention of the fact that fifty-percent of Exeter's students have to live out at some point during their course.
