Exeter Rector
A senior editor of the Economist has been appointed Rector of Exeter College, writes Hannah Parham.
The appointment sees Exeter become the first formerly all-male college to appoint two female Rectors in a row and perpetuates the 'feminocracy' the college has been noted for.
Frances Cairncross, a distinguished financial journalist and Chair of the Economic and Social Research Council, will be formally elected in November in order to take up her position in 2004.
Ms Cairncross feels her experiences as a journalist will prove invaluable. She told the OxStu: "I won't be afraid to ask important people difficult questions - such as, would you like to write a cheque for a new student building!"
