Students Green With Rage

Angry students were forced to evacuate the Green Bar on Friday night following a sudden power-cut - the second such incident in a fortnight.

The episode last week was the result of a water leak, which affected the main fuse and cut off most of the power to the building. Health and safety regulations consequently required the immediate evacuation of the premises, forcing the mass-exodus of students into the streets at midnight. According to Steve Irwin, Bar Manager at Green, the problem is a recurring one that has now been sorted out. A similar incident had occurred at a charity beach party held at the club two weeks before.

A number of students were angered when they failed to receive any sort of compensation. One Keble reveller complained that it was "outrageous to pay £5 for an hour, with no offer of explanation or refund". After a thirty-minute wait others were successful in getting their entrance money returned, although Tonia Savchenko of Teddy Hall describes how the majority were "too drunk or too rich" to stay around.

A spokesman from event organisers Rock Student told the OxStu that they had tried to refund those guests who had entered the club late, and thus paid the full £5 entry fee. Others had entered free of charge - the reason why there was no blanket offer of compensation. Instead, an event was planned for the next evening with free entry and special offers. Although this had to be cancelled due to continued problems at Green, both Rock Student and the club assured us that these have now been solved.
