Oxford's Sherlock Holmes dies

By Unknown Author

An inquest has heard how an Oxford graduate, who was one of the world's foremost experts on Sherlock Holmes, was found dead in mysterious circumstances writes Tim Partridge.

Richard Lanceyln Green was discovered in bed, garrotted by a shoelace, which was tied to a wooden spoon.

The London inquest heard the deceased had become increasingly paranoid, telling friends he believed his flat to be bugged and that a member of the American Sherlock Holmes society was trying to discredit him.

Westminster Coroner Paul Knapman reported an open verdict, stating that, while suicide seemed to be the most likely cause of death, he could not rule out either murder or an unconventional sexual act gone awry.
