Blackwell's supply Afghans

Students in Afghanistan's universities will soon be relying on the bookstore Blackwell's for vital texts, just as their Oxford counterparts have done for decades.

Blackwell's has announced that it will be restocking the libraries for two leading universities in the war-torn nation.

Under the Taliban's oppressive religious regime hundreds of books were destroyed, including many in the university libraries of Kabul and Herat.

As part of the reconstruction attempts, key provisions such as universities have been reopened, giving students the chance once again to read books which were banned for being immoral.

Blackwell's are donating the new stock and books, and the delivery firm DHL is shipping them for free.

Chief Executive Phillip Blackwell said, "The opportunity to begin the important task of restocking university libraries in Afghanistan's key centres of learning is a great privilege."
