Brasenose FHM 'bender'

By Mary Morgan

A Brasenose student has turned Agony Uncle for a new advice column in men's magazine FHM.

'Ask The Bender' sets out to answer straight men's problems from a gay man's perspective.

"Most people have been quite supportive about the column, and found it quite amusing," the student told The OxStu. A confidentiality clause requires him to keep his identity hidden.

Queries so far have ranged from advice on clothes to sexual positions. In one recent entry the self-proclaimed Brasenose Bender bluntly breaks it to a concerned boyfriend that his lady has "obviously been faking it for years."

This sensitive advice guru told The OxStu how his "piss-take" column was inspired by the TV programme Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. "I emailed the Features Editor of FHM with the idea for the column. He then asked to see some sample work of mine, and offered me the job at £1.67 per word: about £500 a month."

The student has since written for the Gay Times, and is also in discussion with BLISS magazine.
