Society snubs Greenfield

Baroness Susan Greenfield has been rejected by the Royal Society. Her nomination for membership several months ago sparked con-troversy.

The Oxford neuroscientist has been left off this year's final shortlist of candidates for an election that will take place at the end of the month. A Royal Society spokesman would not comment on why Lady Greenfield was omitted, but pointed out that over 535 candidates had been nominated for the Fellowship this year. It is possible that she was excluded during meetings held in January, before the row became public.

Lady Greenfield also declined to comment directly on the decision. In an exclusive interview with The OxStu on the morning the news broke, she declined to comment on her reactions to the board's decision. When asked about the reasons behind her omission from this week's list, she said: "You'll have to ask them about that!"
