OUSU Budget
OUSU's latest budget has revealed a long awaited pay rise for its seven sabbatical officers, writes Vishesh Srivastava.
The rise comes despite a withdrawal by the government of over £17,000 of funding for the officers' salaries. The salaries were already the lowest paid among Russell Group university student unions, as well as being on the University's lowest pay scale.
The salaries will rise for the first time in six years, by an amount roughly in line with public sector pay increases. The rise has been enabled largely by a 25 per cent increase in net income from the sponsorship of events and publications. Current VP (Finance) Rodrigo Davies described the move as a "modest but long overdue increase."
