Record number enter fun run

The annual Oxford Mail Town and Gown Fun Run took place on Sunday, with a record number of entrants taking part.

The 10km course followed a new route for the first time this year, passing through the centre of Oxford and several colleges along the way. It was expected to help raise up to £36,000 for research into Muscular Dystrophy, following the £40,000 it raised last year.

The race was a huge success, with over 3000 people participating in the festivities. Many were clad in fancy dress, much to the delight of spectators.

Oxford students Jess Long and Jack Merriott of Teddy Hall, who ran the race with a group of students in aid of Muscular Dystrophy and Oxford-based charity Travel-Aid, told The OxStu: "Despite the stiflingly hot weather, everyone was in high spirits and there was a great deal of camaraderie amongst runners, even though we were all of such different ages and abilities."
