St Anne's pacified
Complaints over the treatment of finalists at St Anne's have ceased this week after the College finally rectified the situation.
Problems with St Anne's finalists being continually disturbed throughout this term by a combination of over-sensitive fire alarms and problems with the hot water system in the Claire Palley Building seem, at last, to have been resolved.
The fire alarms have been going off up to four times daily, often from as early as 7am, and can be set off by anything from steamy showers to deodorants.
One finalist even suggested that the College provide roll-on deodorant for all occupants of the building as an easy solution to the problem.
The situation in the Claire Palley building has been further exacerbated by a recurrent lack of hot water. This led one engineering finalist to boil a kettle to shave, and a law finalist has threatened to withold his payment for an en-suite room.
Some finalists, aside from being bleary-eyed and angry, have claimed it is part of a wider College policy to encourage exam success.
History finalist Chris Sullivan told The OxStu: "There's no doubt about it, it's all about the Norrington Table; they need us up early to get into the Library."
The College, known for its laid back and relaxed atmosphere, has seen the library full from 8am everyday, with students living elsewhere unable to get a seat.
Steven Griffiths, Estate Manager of St Anne's, emphasised that the problems are now fully under control. Last week fire alarm contractors were brought in to replace the defective alarms, which were very old, and the alarms haven't gone off since. Steps have also been taken to fix the hot water system.
No further complaints have been received since the middle of last week, suggesting the situation at St Anne's has much improved.
