Fashion

It is a truth universally acknowledged that every self respecting gal needs multiple pairs of shoes. Every fashionista needs a plethora of shoes to perfect her selected outfit, and a rainbow array of colours isn't a luxury, but a necessity.

Coloured shoes are often eschewed for their more practical counterparts in black, but black IS the new boring. There is nothing more rewarding than baby pink, shocking red or grassy green shoes. Coloured shoes can be expressive in a way that clothes cannot: they are essentially unexpected. They feel frivolous and indulgent and achingly fashion conscious - in a good way, of course.

We all know that although the eyes are a window to the soul, you can tell a lot about a person from their shoes. I've heard it suggested that owners of brown shoes are selfish but what exactly does baby pink suggest about you? Feminine? Girlie? Coloured shoes, as every fashion aficionado knows, draw people like moths to a flame. People notice them immediately and they can make an ordinary outfit that bit more fashion forward. It takes guts to dip your toe into colour but, once shown the light, you'll never look at black shoes again.

Even more importantly, coloured shoes come complete with a buzz when purchasing them, which unlike that of boring black shoes, doesn't seem to fade. They are equally thrilling to wear when a little weather worn and acquainted with the beaten track.

The key to coloured shoes is not their pristine-ness but their spirit: they are like an old friend who never loses his charm, a quality noticeably absent in their black counterparts, with their pretences of practicality.

You'll be surprised how very versatile baby pink shoes actually are, and yes it really is necessary to own three pairs!
