Radiohead top bill at star studded charity concert
Radiohead wowed crowds at Oxford's Playhouse in a gig for charity last Sunday.
Fresh from their Hail To The Thief world tour, Phil Selway (drums), Colin Greenwood (bass) and Ed O'Brien (guitar) backed actor Bill Nighy in a rendition of the Troggs and Wet Wet Wet hit Love Is All Around, performed by Nighy in Love Actually.
Eyewitnesses said the final performance of the night was somewhat chaotic, with the other performers joining the members of Radiohead and Nighy on stage for a sing along.
The concert was organised by Tom Hollander, best known for his role in the film Gosford Park, in aid of Helen House, an Oxford children's hospice where his two-year-old niece, who suffers from brain damage, has received help.
Other stars in the concert included Hugh Laurie, who performed a song, Steve Coogan, Francesca Annis, Michael Gambon, Jeremy Irons, who read The Lion And Albert, and Rory Bremner, as well as Jerry Dammers from The Specials.
Auctions also took place, with Johnny Depp's signed underwear selling for £1,600. Also up for sale was a storyboard from American Beauty signed by director Sam Mendes. Actor Jude Law, who watched the event from the stalls with girlfriend Sienna Miller, was apparently so chuffed that his suit went for £2,000 that "he went up on stage, took off his shirt in the wings, and that was auctioned too, for another £1,000."
The concert was a well-kept secret, with the the majority of the media only finding out on Sunday.
The final amount raised by the concert has not yet been disclosed, but it should go some way to helping Helen's House, who need £4,000 a day to look after their patients.
