Wadham elects new SU President

By Sophy Ridge

After the overwhelming vote to re-open nominations returned from last week's presidential elections at Wadham College, John Jenkins has now been voted in as SU President on the condition that he stands down after a single term in office, writes Sophy Ridge.

Jenkins told The OxStu that he is "looking forward" to serving as President, and hopes to "keep things ticking over" until Hilary term, when he has assured students that a new candidate will take over.

Opposition to Jenkins at the last election had been centred around concerns that he would be sitting finals during his presidency. When asked how he felt about the RON campaigners, Jenkins replied: "I could see the point they were making, as I will be a finalist."

No changes have been made to the electoral system, which current SU President Rob Vance said would have been merely "reactionary". Instead the SU Presidency will still run from Michaelmas to Michaelmas as planned, when a new candidate takes over.
