Union library modernises
Oxford Union members may soon be enjoying DVD rentals in addition to their weekly dose of debates and Purple Turtle debauchery, writes Leila Kamgar.
The creation of a Union DVD catalogue is awaiting Standing Committee's endorsement in 7th week. A straw poll at this week's meeting indicated that the committee was in favour of the idea.
The library collection will begin with 30 DVDs, ranging from such classics as Star Wars and the Godfather to BBC comedy series The Office. Members will also be able to suggest new acquisitions, of which there will be one every week.
With a new academic year on the horizon, President-Elect Ruzwana Bashir told Standing Committee: "A lending library would be excellent to offer Freshers in Michaelmas." An administrative charge of around £1.50 for two nights' rental will almost certainly be levied.
