Bleeding Rubbish?

A photograph of the members of the band.

Shirley Manson and her hardrock companions are back with attitude. Admittedly, they’ve been somewhat elusive of late. Well, okay, they completely disappeared, but this only heightened the suspense surrounding the arrival of their long-awaited fourth album.

Music: Ben Folds,

Ben Folds’ work since his Five broke up has been anything but predictable. After Rockin’ The Suburbs, he’s refused to release anything but EPs, baited Fred Durst, covered The Darkness, and produced William Shatner’s spoken word album. Looking at this, it might seem a surprise that he’s just released his most accessible album since 1997’s Whatever And Ever Amen. On a further listen, though, Songs For Silverman is a natural progression from all these things.

Music: Elgar's Marches

Classical budget label Naxos has notched up another success with its release of Elgar’s Marches, performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. A quality release devoted to these perennial favourites, often treated as orchestral ‘filler’, was required, and it’s certainly what we got: all five of the ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ marches, together with a miscellany of other offerings.

Music: A Whole Lot More Than Sunglasses

I am Kloot’s Pete Jobson strikes a pose.

The casual nonchalance with which I Am Kloot take to the stage at the Zodiac on Saturday and launch straight into their set doesn’t sit well with their appearance. Dishevelled, but not in that stylised, Strokes-esque way, these Mancunian purveyors of melodic indie have the look of the tobacco-stained house band in your local.

Music: We The Starling
