Corpus Bemoans Bad Neighbours
Corpus Christi JCR President Dave Holtham has been mandated to complain to Neighbours script writers in response to mass JCR disillusionment with recent storylines. Holtham, has written a ‘threatening letter’ to writers of the Australian soap-opera demanding that the storylines improve following the unanimous backing of the motion in 8th week last term.
The JCR also resolved to make actors Ian Smith (Harold Bishop) and Tom Oliver (Lou Carpenter) honorary JCR members, and for the ‘Livingstone TV Room’ to be re-named the ‘Harold Bishop Suite’. John Lean, who proposed the motion, singled out the character of Lyn Scully as “rubbish” and called for a return to the show’s “glory days”.
He suggested the writers should hand over their jobs to the Corpus JCR who have indicated they would implement improvements such as “Harold and Lou having an open affair” and “Lyn Scully being killed off … for being so incredibly annoying.” Holtham told The Oxford Student: “Neighbours is very important to Corpuscles and the weakening in storylines had had a serious effect on college morale.”
Although Lean believes there has been an immediate improvement in storylines since the motion was passed, it seems somewhat improbable that it is a result of Dave Holtham’s letter.
Referring to the letter, Holtham said: “The show haven’t replied to my threatening letter just yet but I don’t know if that’s because they want to add insult to injury or because it hasn’t arrived yet; I only had a first class stamp and my guessed address, ‘Neighbours, Australia’, may not have helped.
