Court Red Handed
Justice was seen to be done on Saturday when Oxford Crown Court threw its doors open to the public in a rare opportunity to see how the system works from the inside. As part of a Thames Valley group initiative, Oxford Crown Court, which usually deals with cases ranging from murder to divorce to armed robbery welcomed over 690 people into the courtroom, cells and jury suite as well as giving them an opportunity to talk to members of the judiciary.
The public were invited to sit in on two mock trials presided over by a real judge, and give their opinions before the judge passed his own sentence. Schoolchildren also participated in a mock trial, taking on the roles of barristers, ushers, court clerks and defendants.
