Match Me If You Can
Hugh - BNC - 1st Year - Medicine
The good guy had to pick this week and despite the pressure, Hugh didn’t let the power go to his head. In fact he remained calm and affable; providing easy-going and Hughmorous conversation. His warm disposition put theladies at ease, as well as light-hearted chat Hugh showed depth of character.
Ellie - LMH - 1st Year - History
Ellie is passionate about her subject, and enjoys discussion about anything historical. Known for her outgoing temperament and ability to make hilarious jokes in even the most serious conversations, she is able to hold her own on a wide variety of topics. Always prepared with amusing anecdotes and very adept at lateral thinking, she makes a very interesting companion.
Yasmin - Oriel - 1st Year - Engineering
Yasmin has a surprising range of talents. From kendo (“I have a stick and I know how to use it”) to a fondness for computer games, her infectious enthusiasm means her company is never dull. Speaking of life not being monotonous Yasmin squeezes her degree into time between partying, making her something of a college legend.
The Decision :
Hugh was impressed by both girls. He was eventually persuaded to speak when we agreed to play “I-Spy”. He finally described Ellie as “smashing” and also got along well with Yasmin, whom he said was “really, really cool and friendly.” But he chose Ellie, as he said he would find it easier to have “deep and meaningful conversations” with her.
Once again we found ourselves in Thirst, where a round of cocktails put the show on the road. Hugh’s first half hour was spent with Ellie. We watched from afar and body language seemed promising, and they were apparently involved in an intense conversation, the first of many throughout the course of the evening. Lady Number One described him as “a sweetheart; nice, funny and interesting,” and Hugh was certainly delighted with our first choice.
But were the first thirty minutes all he needed to be persuaded? Yasmin was looking sensational on the sidelines. When her turn came she was as effervescent as expected, providing another promising thirty minutes for Hugh. Reciprocal attempts at romancing took an interesting turn when Hugh decided to consume the whole of his cocktail garnish, lime skin included. Yasmin commented that he then smelt “refreshing, like bathroom cleaner."
Hugh’s difficult decision was imminent, both girls waited anxiously. But the only girl to provide Hugh with the conversational connection he was seeking was Ellie, our lady number one and his partner for dinner. We accompanied our couple to The Oriental Condor where they were welcomed by complimentary drinks to give the romance a kick start.
The date this evening took a meaningful turn; Hugh was right to predict interesting and involved conversations as the couple found that they were better suited to banter than bashful flirting. As a matter of fact, they were so conversationally matched that heartfelt topics were the order of the day.
However by the end of the meal were they full of love or just full of food? Unfortunately only the latter proved true with only the spark of friendship ignited, so much so that they were the last to leave the restaurant. Hugh proved himself to be the ultimate gentleman when in a characteristically chivalrous way he walked Ellie all the way back to LMH. The evening witnessed the exchange of ideas rather then phone numbers.
Next week Yasmin takes over as the chooser, so if you fancy your chances with this lovely lady, or would like a spot of romance later in the term then drop us an email.
