BNC Comes Down Hard On Porn
A Brasenose JCR member has proposed a novel ways to help alleviate finalists’ exam stress after college authorities threatened to crackdown on the downloading of illicit material. Third year Psychologist Jamie Paterson suggested the recent increase in the downloading of illegal material amongst students was due to the pressure of exams. Brasenose authorities have recently issued notices warning against the downloading of pornography.
In a comedy motion to his JCR, Paterson wrote: “I for one have noted an increase in requests for Swede-starring bongo flicks to be sent over MSN in this caring, sharing world we inhabit.”
He proposed the allocation of £100 of JCR funds, to be used ‘to purchase £100 worth of DVD entertainment of a nature to include cheerleaders… and also the Star Whores trilogy because the original is popular again” Other proposed solutions to the problem include “requiring junior members of the JCR to ‘service’ the needs of frustrated finalists.”
Speaking to The Oxford Student, Paterson defended his motion: “Brasenose is attempting to raise its traditionally woeful position in the Norrington table,” he said, “so any aid to the poor, frustrated, Finals-sitting population of college is, I think, necessary.” The motion was not passed as Brasenose JCR does not ratify comedy motions.
College authorities had taken action to defend the innocence of students, emphasising the dangers of downloading “offensive, indecent, sexually explicit material, offensive text or images.” Authorites stated they will not hesitate to track down the guilty parties through the college network, adding that penalties could include rustication.
Even those who do not personally download material but are present when an offence takes place or who later view the material may be liable for punishment So far only one student has been fined.
