Jesus student mugged after Pleasuredome

By Robert Cookson

A Jesus student was hospitalised last Saturday after a night out at the Oxford Brookes’ Pleasuredome. The student, who asked not to be named, was walking down Headington Hill in the small hours of Saturday morning when he was attacked and robbed. Jesus’ JCR President, John-Michael Arnold, said ‘He was the victim of a mugging near Oxford Brookes whilst returning home from the Pleasuredome. He went to hospital but thankfully has not suffered any permanent injuries and is recovering well.

The incident has been reported to the Thames Valley Police. “All I remember is that I was in a field being kicked as I curled up on the ground in a foetal position,” the second-year student told The Oxford Student. As he lay unconscious following the beating, the student’s mobile phone, wristwatch, and wallet were removed from his pockets. The victim remembers neither the identities of his attackers, nor how he arrived in the field adjacent to Headington Road.

“People think that I got dragged there, but anything could have happened,” he said. “I was probably attacked from the back.” The student said he had drunk one beer and two Snakebites that night, and attributed his incomplete memory to being hit on the head. He had left the Pleasuredome alone at around 1:00am. “I’d started hiccupping a lot and wasn’t having a great time, so I decided to find my way home,” he explained. He has little memory of the events surrounding the attack.

“I remember hearing male voices. Vague, deep voices speaking around me as I was kicked.” “I awoke in the field, cold and wet, and in a lot of pain. I staggered out onto the road with one shoe on. Luckily an ambulance was passing by. I hailed it and it stopped for me.” He was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he spent the night. “I had problems breathing because of the bruising on my chest,” the student said.

The student’s message for everyone who goes out in the Headington area: “Even if you’ve walked back from somewhere safely before, don’t be naïve, don’t take risks - it happened to me. It’s a rough area.” “I can’t even eat properly because my left jaw is so swollen.”
