Tough defeat for battling Blues

By Rory OSullivan

Oxford Authentics

Warwick........................................266-8

Oxford..................................199 all out

Oxford lost by 67 runs

A somewhat lacklustre performance saw the Oxford Authentics suffer defeat at the hands of the University of Warwick in their BUSA encounter on Sunday. Hicks once again bowled stingily, however, producing several close LBW shouts; Harries and Sadler produced tight spells, picking up a wicket each, and Oxford will have felt some relief that Warwick’s total was not higher.

Proceedings were enlivened when Chris Stearn seemed to have bowled a Warwick batsman, only for the umpires to give the benefit of the doubt on the grounds that the wrong bail had fallen off. Oxford’s reply got off to a bright start, with Sadler scoring a classy 40. A succession of fallen wickets, however, slowed the rate, and when Bhavesh Patel’s entertaining knock ended with a tame chip to gully, the game was effectively lost.
