Law Soc ticket sale disappoints members
The Oxford University Law Society has come under fire from disappointed students over the way they handled the sale of tickets for their Chivalry Ball. The tickets, which were sold from Wadham JCR on Wednesday, were due to go on sale at 2.30pm. Instead of a physical queue, Law Soc committee members issued members with raffle tickets. Students have expressed anger that people who had already received a raffle ticket were able to leave the JCR and the queue.
Kate Creelman, Law Soc President, denied this was the case. “It isn’t true that people could leave the queue • that’s not our policy.” However Hannah Glover, a Lawsoc member from Merton College, said, “There was no way that everyone who received a ticket was in the JCR at 2.30. They wouldn’t have fit.” Gemma Evans, who did receive a ticket, said, “We could have left the JCR and come back at any time.
Another Lawsoc member said, “It states clearly they won’t go on sale before 2.30. Surely offering them raffle tickets before is very similar.” Creelman said that demand was the major problem. “We would absolutely love to get venues which would accommodate the demand, but this has not been possible.”
