School teacher falls to death from St Mary's tower

A teacher from Magdalen College School fell to his death from the tower of St Mary the Virgin Church in Radcliffe Square on 20th March. The body was found by two members of the public, who called police and paramedics. Witnesses reported seeing more than twelve police cars and an ambulance at the scene. Dr David Brunton, 39, was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:58am. He died in the garden of The Vaults cafe.

Radcliffe Square was closed to members of the public while police investigated the death. Brunton had worked for 14 years at Magdalen College School and was appointed head of media studies in 2002. He and his wife were expecting a baby. Students and teachers are deeply saddened by the event and have left messages of tribute on the Oxford Mail website. A service of remembrance is due to be held when the students return after the Easter holidays. The police have said they are not treating Dr. Brunton’s death as suspicious.
