Drag Run Victory
A Univ engineer endured 26 miles of wolf-whistles on Saturday as he ran the London Marathon in a dress. Wearing his sister’s summer frock, fresher Tom Walker raised £780 for Medecins Sans Frontiers, completing the course in 3h 26. “I’d say the experience was really quite pleasurable,” admitted the athletic cross dresser, who beat his target time by four minutes.
“The dress was very stretchy, and I wore nipple tape and a gel for breastfeeding mothers to reduce the chafing from the dress straps.” The outfit was donned after friends met Walker’s challenge to raise over £500 for the international aid organisation. “I don’t think my sister minds me wearing her clothes,” he added. Seven runners from the Oxford University Cross Country Club were among the top 5000 to finish.
Jessica Leitch, a Teddy Hall Engineering Science student, ran the marathon in less than 3 hours and came 46th out of all female runners. Over the past months she has 70 mile weeks. Nicholas Juravich, a Christ Church postgraduate studying History, and Christopher Millard, a Biochemistry postgraduate at Lincoln, also achieved times of under 3 hours, Juravich coming in the top 500 runners.
Garth Smith, Christ Church JCR president, raised over £1000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust. He said, “It was such an incredible feeling when you came round towards Big Ben and Buckingham Palace and there were thousands of people shouting your name!”
