London protestor jailed

The A Level student who threw a fire extinguisher off the roof of the Conservative Party headquarters during the tuition fees protests has been jailed for violent disorder.
18-year-old Edward Woollard was told he will serve at least half of his 32-month sentence.
News footage showed Woollard throwing the empty metal fire extinguisher from the seventh floor of Millbank Tower during the protest in London on 10th November 2010. It narrowly missed hitting a group of policemen.
Judge Georey Rivlin QC said: “The right of peaceful protest is a precious one. Those who abuse it and use the occassion to indulge in serious violence must expect a lengthy sentence of immediate custody.”
Woollard’s solicitor said the crime was committed in “a single moment of madness”.
