The Ingestigator: Meli’s Deli

Walking down Cowley Road, you are certainly not at a loss if you are looking for authentic international cuisine. Next time you are looking for a meal that is both filling and good value, look no further than Meli’s.Dining at Meli’s is an experience solely based on the value of the food. Not recommended if you are looking for a restaurant experience, but rather a place that is a cheap and an easy option for when you do not have the energy to cook. Tucked away a few steps away from the Magdalen Roundabout, the deli provides a selection of Greek delights from fresh hummus and olive oil.

For breakfast, I decided to try the creatively named ‘Special Breakfast’ as a blind choice. What I got was a very large plate containing fried eggs, onions, a whole host of other things that were unidentifiable but nonetheless good with a salad, hummus, pita and a spicy seasoning. Nothing like I had tasted before, I was left contently full with a surprisingly heavy wallet on my way out, with what can only be described as a smorgasbord of flavours coming at a very healthy £4. Other options available include the vegetarian platter, consisting of four different veggie dishes centred around a portion of rice. A healthy and again, greatly priced option available at any time of the day. My friend who accompanied me reported back enthusiastically, ‘fucking delicious’.

With an al fresco dining facility, perfect for people watching, Meli’s is the kind of place where you can either have a quick meal or sit for hours. The taste of Greece available right on your doorstep, it comes highly recommended.
