University Confers Honorary Degrees


The University intends to confer Honorary Degrees to seven individuals at its Encaenia ceremony this year. Three of the seven individuals include Sir Howard Stringer, John Le Carre, and Baroness Manningham-Buller.


Sir Howard Stringer read Modern History at the University and is currently the Chairman, President and CEO of Sony Corporation.


John Le Carre, the pen-name of David John Moore Cornwall, is a member of Lincoln College and is also a renowned author of espionage novels. His most famous works include Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Constant Gardener.


Baroness Manningham-Buller served as the Director-General of the Security Service from 2002 to 2007, and is a member of Lady Margaret Hall.


Encaenia is traditionally held at the Sheldonian on the Wednesday of the Ninth Week of Trinity. It will be held on 20th June this year.
