Council crush Magdalen library plans

Plans by Magdalen College to extend its library in a new building on its lawn have been thrown out by the City Council. The L-shaped building was described as “brutal” and “ugly” by two councillors, although another said it was a “sympathetic intervention” and a “good way of addressing the needs of the college”.

Magdalen Investment Bursar Charles Young insisted it was the “best solution”.
