The University has announced the establishment of a new institute at the History Faculty. The Cantemir Institute will focus on “the interdisciplinary study of Central and Eastern Europe in its wider European, Eurasian, Mediterranean, and global contexts” and has been made possible through funds from the Berendel Foundation in London.

Dr Marius Turda, the Director of the Institute, said: “The recent, dramatic political developments in central, eastern and south-eastern Europe show exactly why studying the history, politics and culture of these regions is so vital.”
