Hugh’s JCR blow £2,000 on summer Sky fees

College News News

St Hugh’s JCR has faced criticism this week for continuing to pay their Sky TV charges throughout the summer.

This decision cost them over two thousand pounds despite no students

being around during the vacation to watch the television.

JCR President Sara Polakova, said: “We have not simply ‘wasted’ two

thousand pounds.

“There was nothing that we could do regarding Sky, since, at the time, it was impossible legally for us to exploit the College’s charity status to get the lower rate, and we did not simply want to cancel Sky altogether without providing an alternative.

“While this was an expensive move, we are now in renegotiation with Sky and will have a new solution ready by this Sunday, where this sum of money will be spared for the next JCR committee.”
