Theatrical Oxonians: Armando Ianucci

Entertainment

Half Italian, half Scottish, Ianucci graced the dreaming spires in the 80s, when he read English at Univ. He eventually left a D.Phil on Milton to pursue a career in comedy.

Oxford clearly still holds a special place in the comedian/screenwriter’s heart: not only did he meet his wife here, but he also kept up his Oxonian spirit by abseiling down the Radcliffe Infirmary to raise money for the hospital’s Silver Star baby unit earlier this year.

An Oxford Revue alumnus, the man behind the popular political satire series The Thick of It who then directed its spin-off film In The Loop to extreme critical success, is now writing a series about ‘twenty-something year old twitter users’  for HBO.
