Oxford University has signed a declaration on openness in animal research. The pledge aims to find alternative methods for scientific testing and reduce the number of animals required in experiments.
The declaration follows a series of city centre protests in 2005 and 2006 which opposed the construction of a University laboratory on South Parks Road.
The university is one of 41 other organisations to have signed the agreement.
