Balliol College has confirmed that a body found in a tent at Port Meadow over the weekend is that of second-year student Andrew Kirkman.
The 20 year old, who studied Physics and Philosophy, was described by the college’s Master Sir Drummond Bone as a ‘friendly and thoughtful student’.
Sir Drummond said that the college’s “thoughts and condolences go out to Andrew’s parents and his family and close friends at this extremely difficult time”.
Yesterday, Thames Valley Police indicated in a statement that there are no suspicious circumstances.
A statement from Andrew’s parents, Wendy and Michael Kirkman, said he will be “sorely missed”.
“Andy was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a kind young man who took great pleasure in helping other people. He will be sorely missed. We ask for the privacy of his family to be respected.”
Friends took to Twitter to express their condolences for Andrew, originally from Middlesex. Lauren Bowyer tweeted: “I was in such shock when I found out he is genuinely the most talented person I’ve ever met.”
Faiza Jabeen added: “I’m in so much shock. R.I.P AndrewKirkman”.
